Social Season explores the history of Black cotillion balls in the US through an immersive series of photographs made in Detroit between 2022 and 2025. Once reserved for white European nobility, with the purpose of introducing young women to polite society and potential suitors, these events were adopted by African Americans as a means of social upliftment, community building, and education.
The book is commissioned by Sofia Coppola, and is releasing in January 2026 from Important Flowers and Mack Books.
